More about my background
I am doing a post to provide more information about my perspective so that you can better decide if I am the counselor for you.
Before I got my Master of Social Work degree I was studying pre-med at the University of Washington. I enjoyed learning about the sciences, but especially enjoyed that after several years of science course work I could see how things fit together to form the whole. For example, once I got to second year Chemistry for organic chemistry and advanced inorganic, I could see how integral those chemical processes were to anatomy and physiology, but also it was different reactions that were producing combustion and laying the groundwork for physics to work it’s magic in explaining the energy produced.
While I did not go to medical school as planned, my education laid the groundwork for me to have friends in the sciences and engineering. This has shown me the needs and concerns of those who have continued in these fields and how many people can benefit in these fields can benefit from having a counselor. From my experience in social work I have not seen many counselors who come from this background and experience. I feel it is important to be able to connect with and understand the people I work with, so I am hoping that with my background I will be able to provide the much needed assistance to those who are in the STEM fields.
